Do we like Franky?
A character from One Piece (1997–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's loyal, endlessly creative and cheerfully over the top. He started out rough around the edges, and he's been a great crewmate ever since.
Franky is the Straw Hat Pirates' shipwright, a huge, bold cyborg with blue hair who loves cola and striking a pose. One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they sail the seas in search of the legendary treasure. Franky is first met in the city of Water 7, where he leads a gang called the Franky Family.
His backstory is built around his mentor, the shipwright Tom, and a passion for building ships. That passion, along with a gruff exterior hiding a very soft heart, is what makes him likeable. He tears up easily, cheers loudly, and puts everything into his craft.
We score him an 8 because of what he gives the crew: a ship, ingenuity and unshakable loyalty. He loses a couple of points for his rough early days and for the chaos he sometimes brings with him. He's still the kind of friend you want when a ship needs building or a fight needs finishing.
