Do we like Finn the Human?
A character from Adventure Time (2010-2018)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes. He's brave, loyal and always trying to do right, and he's honest about his mistakes. He's impulsive, but his heart is nearly always in the right place.
Finn is a human boy living in the candy-coloured, post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. He lives in a tree house with his adoptive brother Jake, a dog who can stretch into any shape. Finn wears a white hat with bear ears and dreams of being a great hero. Each episode sends the pair off on a quest, usually to rescue a princess, beat a villain, or sort out a strange magical mess.
Finn's defining trait is his sincere wish to do the right thing. He's brave, loyal and enthusiastic, and he tries to be a hero even when it's hard or he doesn't know how. He's also a teenager. He's impulsive, gets jealous and heartbroken, and sometimes charges in without thinking. He lets those flaws hurt people, then tries to make amends, and that keeps him likeable rather than preachy.
Over the course of the series Finn grows up and faces harder questions about who he is, what heroism means and where he came from. Those questions test him, but he keeps choosing compassion over cruelty. That's why we'd follow him almost anywhere: a 9 out of 10, with points off only for his temper and rash decisions.
