Do we like Dobby?
A character from Harry Potter (1998–2011)
Our score: 10 out of 10. Yes, absolutely. He's brave, loyal and kind, and he keeps helping Harry at great personal cost. His early meddling is clumsy but well meant.
Dobby is a house-elf, a magical servant bound to a wizarding family and made to obey them. He first turns up in Harry's bedroom before Harry's second year at Hogwarts. He's nervous and odd, and he is set on stopping Harry from going back to school.
His methods are chaotic and sometimes harmful, but his motive is plain. He wants to keep Harry safe, even though it means going against his masters and punishing himself. That devotion, set against how little he has, makes him one of the most loved characters in the series.
Harry finds a clever way to free him, and Dobby becomes a proud, free elf who still turns up to help when it counts. He is brave and loyal and has a sense of humour, which is why he earns a perfect score.
