Do we like Daryl Dixon?

A character from The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, back him. He's rough around the edges, but he's fiercely loyal and always shows up for the people he cares about. We'd follow him into any fight.

Daryl first appears in The Walking Dead as the quiet, wary younger brother of a hot-headed survivor. He is a skilled hunter and tracker who is at home in the woods, and he fights with a crossbow. The show follows a group trying to stay alive after a zombie outbreak, and Daryl's survival skills make him very useful to them.

At the start he's prickly, distrustful and slow to open up, and he comes across as a loner. As the seasons go on, the group becomes the first real family he's had. His loyalty is what drives him, and it's why he's such a fan favourite.

We score him high because he keeps choosing the people around him. He's flawed, stubborn, and sometimes too quick with his fists. But he's brave and dependable, and he's a better person at the end than at the start.

He outlasts most of the original cast. After Rick Grimes leaves the show, Daryl becomes its main lead for the final seasons. He then carries on in his own spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which takes him to France.
