Do we like Darth Sidious?

A character from Star Wars (Prequel and Original Trilogies) (1983–2019)

Our score: 0 out of 10. Absolutely not. He manipulates, lies and crushes whole worlds to take power. His charm is the worst part.

Sheev Palpatine looks like a gentle, sensible senator from the planet Naboo. In truth he is Darth Sidious, a Sith Lord who has spent years in the shadows plotting to end the Jedi and the Republic. He plays two roles at once: the trusted friend in public and the hooded schemer in private.

His main weapon is patience and persuasion. He builds trust, offers comfort and tempts people with what they want most. He makes sure that every crisis he stirs up hands him more authority, and he always looks like the reasonable one.

He scores a zero because nothing in his story shows real care for anyone. He sees people as pieces to use or throw away. He is a great villain, with cold wit, and Ian McDiarmid makes him fun to watch, but we would never back him.
