Do we like Daphne Blake?

A character from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She's loyal, brave and good at traps. She keeps the gang together and keeps showing up for the mystery, whether or not she's in danger.

Daphne is one of the four teens of Mystery Inc. The others are Fred, Velma and Shaggy, and they travel with Scooby-Doo, a talking Great Dane. In the original 1969 show, the gang drives around in the Mystery Machine van. They stumble on spooky places, find a ghost or monster, and work out who is really behind it.

In the early cartoons she was the fashionable one who kept getting captured or tripping into secret passages. That earned her the nickname "Danger-Prone Daphne". Her family is rich, and she always has the right outfit and the right scarf, but she's never snooty about it. She's cheerful, adventurous and kind to everyone, including a cowardly dog and his friend who will do anything for a snack.

Later versions gave her more to do. Newer series and films show her as an expert in traps and martial arts, and as a full partner in solving the case. That is why the score is high. She does a lot of good, does almost no harm, and her loyalty never wavers. She loses a few points because she's a little too trusting and a little too keen to wander off alone in a haunted house.
