Do we like Daniel Tiger?
A character from Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (2012–present)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes. He has big feelings like any preschooler, but he works through them with songs and kindness. He'd happily share his toys and help you through a tricky day.
Daniel is a 4-year-old tiger cub who lives on Jungle Beach with his parents. Every day he puts on his red sweater, ties his shoes, and invites a new generation of preschoolers into the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. The series was inspired by Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and Daniel is loosely based on the shy Daniel Striped Tiger puppet from that show.
With his pals O the Owl, Katerina Kittycat, Prince Wednesday and Miss Elaina, Daniel faces small, relatable problems. They include waiting his turn, trying new foods, feeling left out, and missing his parents. Each episode comes with a simple song that gives kids a strategy they can use themselves.
That's why he scores so high. He isn't a flawless hero. He gets frustrated and scared like any four-year-old, but he works through it honestly and kindly. The show's lessons are about working together, being kind and learning age-appropriate skills, and Daniel is a gentle, trustworthy guide to them.
