Do we like Daniel Molloy?

A character from Interview with the Vampire (2022–)

Our score: 7 out of 10. Yes, with a raised eyebrow. He's stubborn, a bit of a mess, and he fact-checks a vampire to his face. That nerve, and his hunger for the truth, is easy to back.

Daniel Molloy is an investigative journalist near the end of his career. In the AMC series, he is described as given a second chance at the interview of a lifetime. The show is a retelling of Anne Rice's novel, and it follows Louis, Lestat and Claudia's story of love, blood and the perils of immortality. Daniel is the one who sits down to hear it.

Daniel is not a passive listener. He interviews Louis in his Dubai apartment, and their talks grow tense as Daniel begins to question the accuracy and consistency of Louis's memories. He's a reporter who doesn't want the polished version, and he'll say so. He is also messy, proud and a little burnt out, which makes him very human next to the immortals around him.

We score him a 7 because he cares about getting the story right and has the guts to challenge very dangerous company. He loses points for self-sabotage and for walking into trouble out of curiosity or pride. He is the audience's stand-in, and we'd happily back him, ideally from a safe distance.
