Do we like Coriolanus Snow?
A character from The Hunger Games (2012-2023)
Our score: 1 out of 10. Not a chance. He is charming and clever, but he puts power and his own survival ahead of everyone else, and he's willing to hurt anyone to keep control.
Coriolanus Snow is the president of Panem, a nation that forces each of its twelve districts to send two teenagers to the Hunger Games every year. In the original films, Donald Sutherland plays him as a calm, polite and chilling ruler. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Tom Blyth plays him as an 18-year-old whose once-grand family is now struggling.
Young Snow is a clever, ambitious student who hopes to win a university prize by mentoring a tribute in the 10th Hunger Games. He can seem likeable and even vulnerable, and he cares about his family. But he is also proud, calculating and ready to bend the rules when his own future is at stake.
He scores low because the charm only goes so far. Time after time he picks control, status and safety over other people, and in the end he becomes the tyrant who keeps the Games going and fights to hold power.
