Do we like Charizard?

Our score: 8 out of 10. A proud, stubborn flame-thrower who only listens once he trusts you, and is fiercely loyal after that. We'd back him, though we'd stand a few steps away.

Charizard begins as a Charmander that Ash finds abandoned and ill early in his Kanto journey. Ash cares for it, and the little fire lizard becomes one of his first dependable team members.

After evolving, Charizard becomes rebellious. He only fights opponents he considers worthy and often ignores Ash's commands. Ash wins his respect by looking after him, and from then on Charizard obeys him in battle.

Charizard has a lot of pride and a short temper. He is also loyal and protective, which is why he scores well despite the attitude. Fans remember him as a heavy hitter among Ash's Pokémon, and as a running gag in which he greets Ash with a burst of flame.

Ash eventually leaves Charizard at the Charicific Valley to train with other Charizard. He returns later for big battles, and in one of them he even Mega Evolves.
