Do we like Chandler Bing?

A character from Friends (1994–2004)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's insecure and hides behind jokes, but he's loyal, generous and a good friend. His flaws are mostly awkward ones, not harmful ones.

Chandler Bing lives in New York City with his best friend Joey. He works a corporate job that his friends never quite understand. He's the group's resident sarcast, and he copes with nerves and awkwardness by joking. The show follows him and five friends through work, dating and growing up.

Underneath the one-liners he has real insecurities. His parents' messy divorce left him wary of commitment, and he often sabotages relationships by panicking or joking at the wrong moment. He's still always there when a friend needs him, whether that means a favor, a loan, or a late-night talk.

He scores well because the jokes are the worst of his faults. Over the years he grows more honest, more generous and more willing to be vulnerable, which makes him easy to root for. He loses a few points for dodging difficult conversations and for the occasional selfish blunder.
