Do we like Captain Underpants?
A character from The Adventures of Captain Underpants (1997)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Dim, dopey and endlessly cheerful, he always tries to do right and protect the kids. We'd back him, as long as someone else handles the plan.
George Beard and Harold Hutchins are best friends and prankster comic-book creators at Jerome Horwitz Elementary. Their tyrannical principal, Mr. Krupp, hates their fun. When they hypnotize him with a 3-D Hypno-Ring, he becomes Captain Underpants, a superhero in a cape and briefs who believes he's saving the day.
As Captain Underpants he is brave, naive and joyfully goofy. He has no sense of danger and no sense of shame, but his heart is in the right place. He fights absurd villains, such as the scheming Professor Poopypants in the 2017 film, and he's loyal to the boys who made him.
He scores an 8 because he's ridiculous but sincere. He does far more good than harm, and his chaos is harmless comedy. Points come off for being reckless and needing the kids to steer him.
