Do we like Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)?
A character from Captain Marvel (2019)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Brave, principled and absurdly powerful. She's a little blunt and hard to relate to, but she reliably shows up for the people who need her. We'd back her.
Carol Danvers is a hotshot Air Force pilot who is stubborn, funny and doesn't back down. After an accident involving alien technology, she gains energy-based powers, including flight and strength. The 2019 film Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s and follows her as she works out who she is and where her loyalties lie.
Her best trait is her grit. She gets knocked down constantly and keeps getting up. She's loyal to friends like Maria Rambeau and Nick Fury, and she holds to her own sense of right even when authority tells her otherwise.
She loses points for being emotionally guarded and sometimes aloof. Her huge power can make her seem distant from the rest of the heroes. Even so, she's a dependable ally who puts herself between ordinary people and danger. That earns her a 7 out of 10.
