Do we like Captain Jack Sparrow?
A character from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Our score: 7 out of 10. He's a rogue who looks out only for himself, but he keeps helping the right people at the right moment. We'd back him, and we'd also keep a hand on our wallets.
Jack Sparrow is a pirate captain in the Caribbean who has lost his beloved ship, the Black Pearl. He relies on wit, bluff and luck far more than swordsmanship. The first film begins with him arriving in Port Royal in a sinking boat, and he is soon tangled up with a young blacksmith and a governor's daughter.
His appeal is that nobody can tell what he is plotting, and often he cannot either. He is selfish and slippery, and he runs from a fight when he can. Yet he keeps a code of his own, and the people who spend time with him tend to find he comes through for them. That mix of rascal and reluctant ally is why we give him a solid 7.
