Do we like Bugs Bunny?
A character from Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies (debut: A Wild Hare) (1940–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's cool, quick and loyal to his own peace and quiet. He only fights back when pushed, though his payback can go a bit far.
Bugs Bunny is Warner Bros.' most famous cartoon star. He was shaped by several animators and by Mel Blanc's voice. He appears in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts, and he has also been in features, TV series, comics and games. Each short follows a pattern. Someone turns up who wants to catch him, beat him or boss him around, and Bugs has to deal with them.
His familiar form arrived in 1940's A Wild Hare. In it he leans casually on his burrow, chews a carrot and greets the hunter Elmer Fudd with 'What's up, Doc?' Britannica says what sets him apart from Mickey Mouse is that he is clever, disrespectful and funny. He's a smart aleck, but a charming one, and he usually wins by staying calm while everyone else loses their temper.
Why 8? He nearly always starts out minding his own business, and his rivals (Elmer, Daffy, Yosemite Sam and others) tend to be greedy, vain or bent on hunting him. His revenge can be wildly over the top, and he can be a smug troublemaker. Even so, he's loyal to his own sense of fair play, and we'd happily have him on our side.
