Do we like Boruto Uzumaki?

A character from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (2017–present)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He starts out as a bratty kid chasing attention, but he's loyal and brave, and he grows into someone who protects his friends.

Boruto is the son of Naruto, the hero of the original series, who is now Hokage. The world is at peace and ninja work looks more like a job than a war. Boruto resents how little time his busy father has for him, so he acts out, plays pranks and takes shortcuts. Underneath that, he's talented, inventive and fiercely loyal to his team.

Over the story he learns what his father's job really costs, and what it takes to protect a village that has never known real hardship. Along the way he is a good teammate to Sarada and Mitsuki, and he gets to know Kawaki, who has a darker past. His bravado turns into real responsibility, and he comes to value honesty and friendship over his image.

In the later story, a new threat forces him to give up the comfortable life he knew. He is hunted by the people he used to trust, and he is marked by a power he never asked for. The cocky kid becomes a determined young man who is willing to carry the blame to protect the people he loves. That growth earns him a high score. Some early recklessness keeps him from the top mark.
