Do we like Blair Waldorf?

A character from Gossip Girl (2007-2012)

Our score: 6 out of 10. A scheming, sharp-tongued perfectionist with a real heart. We'd back her, but we'd keep an eye on her and on whoever she's cross with.

Blair is the reigning queen of an elite Manhattan prep school. She is immaculately dressed, headband included, and she is used to getting her way. Gossip Girl is a show about Upper East Side teens whose lives are exposed by an anonymous blogger. It opens when her best friend Serena returns to town and upsets Blair's carefully ordered world.

Blair's defining trait is insecurity. Underneath the poise is a girl who badly fears not being enough. That fear drives her to plot, manipulate and humiliate rivals to protect her place. She is also funny, quick-witted and very loyal to the few people she lets in.

Over the six seasons she keeps clashing with her friends and her own worst instincts, and she slowly learns to build her sense of worth on something sturdier than status. She stays far from a saint, but she is more rounded and more forgivable than her early schemes suggest. That is why she lands at a 6: very entertaining, often unkind, ultimately worth backing.
