Do we like Bellatrix Lestrange?
A character from Harry Potter (1999-2007)
Our score: 1 out of 10. No. She is gleefully cruel and fiercely loyal to the wrong master. She's great fun to watch, but you wouldn't want her on your side.
Bellatrix is a witch from the wealthy, blood-obsessed Black family. She is one of the Dark Lord Voldemort's most loyal Death Eaters. We first hear of her as one of the people whose cruelty put others in terrible danger. When she appears in person, she is wild, unpredictable and proud of her devotion.
She is clever and a powerful duelist, but her judgment is warped by obsession. She mocks and torments her enemies, and she sees her own family's disgrace as a stain to be wiped out. Her loyalty to Voldemort is total and almost worshipful, and that makes her dangerous and reckless.
We score her very low because her cruelty is personal and gleeful, not just a means to an end. Helena Bonham Carter's manic, theatrical performance makes her one of the series' most memorable villains. She is a joy to watch and nobody you'd back.
