Do we like Baymax?
A character from Big Hero 6 (2014)
Our score: 10 out of 10. Yes, absolutely. He's endlessly patient, kind and selfless, and he only wants you to be well. We'd back him, and we'd take the fist bump.
Baymax is a personal healthcare companion: a soft, inflatable white robot who scans people, assesses their pain on a scale of one to ten, and treats what ails them. Tadashi Hamada, a gifted young roboticist, created him. Tadashi's younger brother Hiro, a teenage prodigy, meets him in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo.
Baymax takes his job very literally. He wants Hiro to be healthy, safe and happy. Hiro is initially exasperated by the slow, literal-minded robot, and the two slowly form a real bond. Baymax's calm and honesty, and his habit of asking if you are satisfied with your care, are both funny and moving.
He scores a 10 because his goodness is built in and also chosen: he keeps looking after people even when it is difficult. When Hiro is in a dark place, Baymax doesn't give up on him. He is a fine example of what patience and empathy can do.
