Do we like Astro Boy?
A character from Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) (1952-1968)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, back him. He's brave, gentle and keeps choosing to protect both humans and robots, even when people treat him badly.
Astro Boy, known in Japan as Atom, is the hero of Osamu Tezuka's manga, which ran from 1952 to 1968 and was later adapted into several anime series. He lives in a future where robots work alongside humans, and he is a robot boy with human-like emotions and extraordinary powers.
In the story, Dr. Tenma, a brilliant scientist, builds him after losing his own young son. Astro has a rocket-powered flight, super strength and a good heart. Most of his adventures involve him defending people from dangerous machines, villains and disasters.
He scores high because his compassion never wavers. He is often caught between two worlds, since humans fear robots and robots resent humans, yet he keeps trying to build understanding. He is a little naive and sometimes sad about where he belongs, but he is a hero worth following.
