Do we like Asterix?
A character from Asterix (comic series) (1959–present)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's clever, loyal and brave, and he uses his strength to protect his village. He's a little vain about it, but he means well.
Asterix lives in a small Gaulish village in 50 BC. The whole of Gaul is under Roman rule except this one village, which holds out thanks to a magic potion brewed by the druid Getafix. The potion gives whoever drinks it superhuman strength for a while. Asterix is small, sharp and resourceful, so the village sends him on its most important missions.
He is the brains of the pair. His best friend Obelix is huge, good-natured and strong enough that he doesn't need the potion. Together they take on Roman camps, travel the ancient world and get involved in schemes that are more silly than serious. Asterix is quick to lose his temper and takes pride in being the clever one, but he stays loyal and fair.
He scores high because his violence is cartoonish and aimed at invaders, and he uses his wits as much as his fists. He's a hero you'd happily follow, and the jokes and puns are a bonus.
