Do we like Aquaman?
A character from Aquaman (DC Comics) (1941–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. A steady, big-hearted protector stuck between two worlds. He's a bit gruff and a bit mocked, but we'd happily back him, ideally with the sea at our side.
Aquaman first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941. He is Arthur Curry, the son of a human lighthouse keeper and an Atlantean mother. He has super strength, durability, underwater breathing and the ability to command sea life. Raised between two worlds, he is never fully trusted by either.
Over the decades he has been a king, a Justice League founder and a lone guardian of the seas. The Geoff Johns-era comics lean into his identity struggles and his wish to prove he's more than a joke. Older cartoons like Super Friends played him for laughs.
We give him an 8 because his goals are good: protect the oceans, protect people, and lead with a sense of duty. His temper and his divided loyalties cost him points, but he keeps choosing to do right.
