Do we like Aloy?
A character from Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, back her. She's brave, curious and kind underneath the stubbornness, and she grows from chasing her own answers to protecting everyone around her.
Aloy is raised as an outcast by the Nora tribe, in a lush post-apocalyptic world full of robotic animals. She grows up with one question, which is who she is and why she was shunned. She trains as a hunter and uses a bow and her wits to survive. That drive pushes her out into the wider world.
Aloy is direct, curious and driven, and she doesn't waste time. Reviewers note that she starts as an outsider and shifts from personal goals to caring about the world around her. Her motives are clear from the start, so she's easy to root for.
She is stubborn and sometimes blunt, and she isn't always patient with people who cling to tradition. But she is loyal to those who earn her trust, and she keeps picking the harder, braver path. That's why she scores so high with us.
