Do we like Albert Wesker?
A character from Resident Evil (1996)
Our score: 1 out of 10. No. He is a cold, arrogant schemer who treats people as disposable test subjects. He is great to watch but nobody you'd want to back.
Wesker begins as the composed captain of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) in Raccoon City. When his team is sent to investigate a series of grisly incidents, he looks like a steady leader.
Underneath he is secretive, ruthless, and convinced he is smarter than everyone around him. He cares about results and his own advancement, and he sees other people as tools or experiments. That coldness, plus his dry confidence, is what made him one of gaming's best-known villains.
He is secretly in league with Umbrella, the company behind the outbreak, and betrays his team to serve its plans. He seems to meet his end, but he returns in later games with superhuman powers and grander schemes, and he stays a major threat to the heroes for much of the series.
