Do we like Cameron Diaz?
Our score: 7 out of 10. No harmful words or acts turned up and she's been publicly warm about drag and loyal to colleagues, but we found little on her politics either way.
Cameron Diaz is a very famous face who keeps her politics to herself, which makes this a short file. We went looking for the slide into grievance, the culture-war posts and the dodgy company, and none of it turned up. That's honestly the main finding.
The nearest thing to a scandal is a tabloid one, and she was the target. Back in 2005 the National Enquirer's website alleged she'd been cosying up to a married producer on her MTV show. She took the publisher to London's High Court, and in 2007 it settled for what her lawyer called substantial damages. The magazine apologised unreservedly and accepted the claims were without foundation.
Then there's the Epstein mention. In January 2024 unsealed court documents from a case against Ghislaine Maxwell included an accuser's deposition saying Epstein had name-dropped several celebrities, Diaz among them. Her representatives said she never met him and had no association with him, and the report doesn't accuse her of any wrongdoing. Being name-checked by someone else isn't a mark against her.
On the harm test, her record is mostly her being kind in public. She told a podcast in 2020 that RuPaul's Drag Race got her through a rough patch, and admired the queens for being their truest selves. We found no word from her either way on trans rights, climate or vaccines, so the pass rests on a clean record rather than on her taking stands.
How she treats people looks solid too. When rumours swirled about trouble on the Back in Action set, she went on a podcast in 2023 to say everybody loves her co-star Jamie Foxx and that she hated what was being said. Away from film, she co-founded the organic wine label Avaline, which she says grew out of a friendship over a kitchen-table glass.
So would we support her? Yes, with a small caveat: a quiet public figure hasn't been tested the way a loud one has. Nothing nasty, a bit of real warmth for the community and loyalty to her mates. That's a pass on both counts.
