Do we like Cameron Avery?

Our score: 6 out of 10. A clean search with little detail either way, so he lands at a cautious yes rather than a cheer.

Cameron Avery is a Perth musician best known as the bassist in Tame Impala's live band. He has also built his name with Pond and as frontman and songwriter of The Growl. That puts him in the middle of the Perth psych-rock scene that Kevin Parker's band came out of.

The Tame Impala lineup announced for the October 2026 Australian arena tour includes Avery alongside Parker, Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Julien Barbagallo and James Ireland. He's a long-time member of the touring band, not a hired gun.

On the harm check, we searched his name against LGBTQ+ issues, women, climate, migrants and politics. Nothing harmful of his own turned up, and the company he keeps is Tame Impala's touring band, which raised no red flags. That's an absence of evidence, not a ringing endorsement, because we couldn't open the full articles to dig deeper.

On the court record and allegations side, searches found nothing about him. No lawsuits, no accusations and no controversy reports came back for this Cameron Avery. A quiet record is a good sign, but we can't call it a deep one.

Beat's March 2026 piece has him back in a more personal mode with his solo work, after a gap since his first solo album. We couldn't confirm much about causes or charity beyond a 2013 one-off fundraising gig, so this is a nice-bloke-on-paper verdict. If you love the band, you can enjoy him without worrying.
