Do we like Bella Ramsey?

Our score: 8 out of 10. Years of public support for trans, non-binary and intersex people and the oceans, no harmful words or company turned up, and a record with no court cases found.

Ramsey was born in 2003 and made their professional debut at 11 as the formidable Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. The big breakthrough came in 2023 as Ellie in HBO's The Last of Us, opposite Pedro Pascal. Along the way there was The Worst Witch, His Dark Materials and Hilda, and in 2026 a voice role in the film The Sheep Detectives.

Ramsey came out as non-binary in a 2023 New York Times interview, saying their gender has always been very fluid, and they use they/them pronouns. In a 2025 Guardian interview they called going public a mixed bag, saying part of them wished it hadn't become a headline, while noting people had told them the representation helped. That's an honest, human answer rather than a victory lap.

On the harm test, there's nothing to dig up. PinkNews reports Ramsey signed an open letter calling for a Gaza ceasefire in May 2025, pledged solidarity with trans, non-binary and intersex communities after the 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling, and serves as a Greenpeace Oceans Ambassador. The Gaza letter is the kind of thing where your view of it depends on your view of the war, but it's a signature on a public letter, not a slur. The recent credits we saw, Celebrity Traitors and The Sheep Detectives, are mainstream telly and film.

The good stuff is quiet and steady. Ramsey is a patron of Bamboozle Theatre in Leicester, which creates theatre experiences for autistic young people and those with learning disabilities, and has been named a Greenpeace Oceans Ambassador for years.

We found no court cases and no credible accusations. A few gossip-site claims floating around, like a Mothercare story, are tabloid territory with nothing solid behind them. Add the fact they went public about their identity at a cost to their own privacy, and this is an easy one for a family page like ours.
