Do we like Beck Munkhbayar?
Our score: 5 out of 10. Nothing harmful found, but the English-language record is thin, so he sits in the middle until we know more.
Beck Munkhbayar is Mongolia's act at the first-ever Eurovision Song Contest Asia, and that's how he's landed on our radar. Eurovision's own announcement says he made his singing debut in 2007 and has since worked as an actor, host, model and producer. That's nearly two decades in the business.
Off stage, he's described as an economist, media host and event director. ESCXTRA says Mongolian audiences know him from hosting work on CNBC Mongolia, and that he has advised the Deputy Prime Minister. Those are the only career details the sources we could read gave us, so the backstory is thin.
The only stoush here is a rules hiccup, not a scandal. After the 10 October selection show, it emerged that the winner, Light, had been commercially released in 2018. ESCXTRA reports the contest bars songs released before 1 July 2026, so Beck moved to the runner-up, Chamguigeer (Without You).
On the harm check, we found nothing: no words or campaigns against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet, and no run of work with people who push that sort of thing. But that's mostly because English-language coverage is thin, and we couldn't find an interview where he talks about any of it. We couldn't find any court cases or allegations either.
So we're not calling it a pass, because we don't know enough. Mongolia's first Eurovision Asia entry will be interesting to watch, and if he says or does anything on a bigger stage we'll know more. For now he's a blank slate, not a red flag. The contest is on 14 November.
