Do we like Bea Alonzo?

Our score: 7 out of 10. No harmful words or company turned up, there is real charity work, and a few contested disputes keep her off the top shelf.

The big story of 2026 so far is a peace deal. Alonzo filed a cyber libel case in 2024 against showbiz commentators including Cristy Fermin, and in 2025 a Quezon City court issued arrest warrants for Fermin and two co-hosts, who posted bail. In February she withdrew the case after they publicly apologised, with her lawyers saying she chose to forgive after two years in court.

The latest mess is behind the scenes. Her manager Shirley Kuan resigned in August and told PhilSTAR L!fe she had been blamed for a cancelled wedding in Spain, which she denied causing, and that she was disinvited from an event she'd helped organise. Alonzo later had a civil wedding in Makati on 13 July. Her camp hadn't replied to the outlet, so this is one side of a stoush.

On the harm check, honestly, the cupboard is bare in a good way. Our searches turned up nothing from her on trans people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate, and no pattern of working with people who push that stuff. Her next series, Whispers From Heaven, is a political drama she says is a bit controversial, with Tom Rodriguez, Cassy Legaspi and Maricar Reyes. That also means we can't point to loud LGBTQ+ advocacy from her either.

The disputes are where it gets murkier. A former family driver filed a labour complaint with the NLRC, alleging illegal dismissal and maltreatment, as reported on Fermin's radio show. Alonzo's lawyer called it a harassment case and said the driver worked for the family for about three months. Separately, in 2023 she was accused online of grabbing Aeta land near her Zambales farm, and her lawyer demanded a retraction. We found no ruling on either.

The good stuff is real. In 2020 she co-founded the I Am Hope relief group, which raised millions of pesos for frontliners and communities during the pandemic. She also donated goods to an orphanage that July. For a star at her level, that's more than a photo op.

So would we back her? Mostly yes. Her biggest recent move was dropping a lawsuit once she got an apology, which is the opposite of a grudge-holder. The unresolved driver complaint and the land-grab claim keep this a lean yes with a footnote rather than a gold star.
