Do we like Bae Suzy?

Our score: 8 out of 10. No harmful words or company turned up, plenty of giving, and one civil ruling from a 2018 petition she signed and apologised for.

Bae Suzy is a South Korean singer and actress who came up through the girl group miss A and now carries her own dramas. By 2022 she was fronting the series Anna as her first solo lead, and she talked about wanting to show “a new side of myself”. The sources we could open were thin on her childhood, so this is the career, not the whole biography.

Her messiest chapter started in 2018. After a YouTuber said she had been sexually harassed, Suzy signed a government petition seeking tougher investigations into leaked hidden-camera photos. She said she did it so the case would reach more people, and admitted it could sway opinion: “I intervened, as one person to another.”

The petition named a studio, and the studio sued. In June 2019 a Seoul court ordered Suzy and two others to pay 20 million won, a fifth of the 100 million the studio wanted. Her lawyer said she felt a moral responsibility, and she apologised on social media. That's a lapse in checking, not cruelty, and she took the hit.

On the harm check, we found nothing. No LGBTQ+ comments either way, no conspiracy posts, no climate or vaccine noise, and no run of work with people pushing harm. That's an absence in what we could read, not a glowing record on queer issues, so we're saying so plainly.

She has also been on the receiving end of abuse. A man who posted comments about her in 2015, calling her a “national hotel girl”, was fined 500,000 won by the Supreme Court in 2023 after an eight-year fight. The court said the phrase degraded her as a sexual object. She stuck with it for years.

Nothing new on her personally lately. In August 2025 her agency's boss warned that anyone spreading marriage rumours about her would “pay for it”. That's her agency pushing back on gossip, not anything she did.
