Do we like Asmongold?
Our score: 1 out of 10. A long, loud run of harmful words of his own on immigrants, trans kids and political opponents, with little verified good to set against it.
Zack Hoyt, better known as Asmongold, is one of the biggest streamers in the US, with a huge YouTube following that Media Matters ranks among the largest online voices in gaming and politics. He co-founded the creator group One True King (OTK) and was a leader there until 2024. He built his name on gaming commentary, then drifted steadily into politics.
The first big stoush was October 2024. Dexerto reports that his comments about the Palestine conflict were widely called dehumanising, which earned him a brief Twitch ban and saw him step back from a leadership role at OTK. In February 2025 he told viewers that threats, complaints to sponsors and attacks on his friends would not change what he says: “None of it is gonna make me stop”.
On the harm test, the record is rough. Media Matters reports that he said his aim is to “radicalize people as much as possible”, and that he called for the military or National Guard to “round them all up” and for denaturalising citizens. It also reports that he said Rep. Ilhan Omar “would be on a boat back to Somalia”, and that anti-ICE protesters could be held in camps for mandatory labour. Those are his own words, not other people's spin.
On Trump, Media Matters reports he complained that Trump is not “more authoritarian” and said he would consider a third term if journalists were jailed. Dexerto earlier reported his streams cheering Trump's inauguration and executive orders, which some of his own fans found tiresome. Where you land on Trump is your call, but calling for opponents to be jailed or made to suffer is a different thing from backing a politician.
On the good side, the picture on this page is thin: I could not open any reporting on his charity work or kindness to others this run, so I can't give him credit I haven't verified. Fans clearly love the unfiltered chat, and he has stood by friends in feuds, but that is not the same as standing up for people who need it.
