Do we like Arijit Singh?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Nothing harmful found and some real good done, but we found little on his views and a couple of unresolved allegations stop us going higher.

Arijit Singh grew up in Jiaganj, a small town in Murshidabad, West Bengal, to a Sikh father whose family came from Lahore at Partition and a Bengali mother. He was learning the sargam by about three, studied Rabindra Sangeet and tabla, and was taken on by a classical teacher who reckoned he should leave town for bigger things.

The big break was slow. He found fame on the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2006, then worked in the programming teams of composers like Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar before songs like Phir Mohabbat Karne Chala and Raabta got noticed. Then Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 made him a phenomenon and he won Best Singer for it in 2013.

Now the harm check, the page's main question. We found no statement from him against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet, no conspiracy rabbit holes, and no history of campaigning for anyone who does. The catch is that he barely gives interviews, so the honest summary is that the record is clean but quiet. We didn't dig up a run of films with controversial company either.

The stoushes are small. He has a long-running feud with Salman Khan that outlets describe as a famous falling-out, though the reporting we read never explains what caused it. After a 2023 Kolkata concert he posted an apology to fans that also blasted volunteers, saying some had misbehaved, then deleted it within the hour.

Two allegations are still hanging. In August 2025 a local man alleged in a written complaint that Singh's bodyguard assaulted him while a road was blocked for a video shoot; the report we read carried no response from Singh and no outcome. In February 2026 the principal of a Jiaganj college posted CCTV clips alleging Singh and Aamir Khan entered the campus at night without permission, then deleted them, saying he was forced to. No police action was reported.

The good stuff is practical. In June 2021 he teamed with GiveIndia and Facebook on a livestream fundraiser from his home district for oxygen equipment, hospital beds, medicine and meals in small towns and villages. He also moved his life back to Jiaganj, and he has taken on AI voice clones in court, winning interim relief in Bombay High Court in 2024.
