Do we like Anushka Sharma?
Our score: 7 out of 10. Years of speaking up for women and strays, and backing women-led stories, set against one contested homeopathy post in 2026.
Anushka Sharma was born in 1988 and raised in Bangalore in an army family. She trained with a modelling agency, walked at Lakme Fashion Week in 2007 and made her film debut in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008. Band Baaja Baaraat made her a star, and she won a Filmfare supporting actress award for Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
The best part of her career story is the pivot to producing. With her brother she co-founded Clean Slate Filmz, which made NH10, Bulbbul and the series Paatal Lok. She has said she wanted to show strong, independent women on screen because Indian cinema's portrayal of women was skewed and lopsided.
The harm check starts with the recent stoush. In June 2026 she posted a video of a homeopath in conversation, captioned that homeopathy played an important role in her life. Hepatologist Cyriac Abby Philips and a urologist called the post pseudoscience that puts lives at risk. That is a public-health complaint about what she shared, not about anything she said against any group of people.
She has also been on the receiving end of abuse. She told an interviewer it was hurtful to be trolled over her husband's cricket form, and she called the trolls misogynistic. She has kept working and speaking, which counts for something.
The good stuff is practical. After Paatal Lok, she posted photos of the show's dogs and shared a list of animal rescue groups, urging fans to support strays. Her tax fight with the Maharashtra Sales Tax Department over brand-endorsement income is the other bit of recent-ish news. The Bombay High Court sent her to the appeals route in 2023 without ruling on the merits, so it is a dispute, not a finding against her.
So where does she land? She is a producer who backs women's stories, speaks up for women and animals, and has been consistent for years. The homeopathy post is a real mark, because health misinformation can hurt people. But it is one post, not a campaign, and the record in front of us is thin on anything worse.
