Do we like Anthony Simcoe?
Our score: 6 out of 10. A clean record and a likeable interview, but too little public record, and no verified good deeds, to score higher.
Anthony Simcoe is the Australian actor who played the hulking Luxan warrior Ka D'Argo on the sci-fi cult favourite Farscape, and he was also in the 1997 Aussie classic The Castle. After the show he mostly worked on Australian projects, including Nim's Island in 2008. His last big appearances were Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities in 2009 and The Inbetweeners 2 in 2014.
Then he stepped away from acting. By his own social media profile, as reported by Yahoo, he describes himself as a former actor, and he now runs a consultancy doing communication and leadership training. A 2023 podcast listing calls him an in-demand business trainer and a storytelling and machine learning researcher.
On the harm check, the cupboard is bare in the best way. Searches for anything he has said or done about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, vaccines or the climate found nothing, and no politics or culture-war campaigns either. His recent work is a corporate training business, so there is no dodgy company to check, though the record is so small that it also doesn't prove much.
On the good-person side, searches for lawsuits, court outcomes and accusations came back empty. The one personal thing we have is how he talks about his craft: he said the aim with D'Argo was to make him less of a meat axe and more of a Cyrano de Bergerac. That shows a performer who wanted a warrior with heart, which is a nice note for a bloke in alien prosthetics.
Honest gap: we found no charity work, no causes and no standing up for anyone at a cost to himself. That is more a lack of coverage than a mark against him, which is why this is a solid pass and not a glowing one. Nothing new on him lately, either.
