Do we like Anthony Pratt?
Our score: 5 out of 10. A big charity pledge and no harmful words found, set against $15.1 million for Trump's super PAC and an unresolved allegation about shared secrets.
Pratt is the cardboard heir. His grandfather Leon started the family business in Shepparton with a lighter box for apple growers, his late father Richard built it into Visy, and Anthony studied economics at Monash and worked at McKinsey before joining. He has lived in the US since 1991 and built Pratt Industries there into a 72-site operation across 26 states.
The story he's best known for is Mar-a-Lago. In October 2023 ABC News reported that Trump had allegedly shared sensitive details about US nuclear submarines with Pratt, who allegedly passed them to dozens of others. Trump denied it and called Pratt a “red haired weirdo from Australia”; Fortune says Pratt did not immediately respond, and nothing has been proven.
On the harm test, we found nothing from Pratt about trans people, women, migrants or the climate, which is a gap in the record rather than a clean bill of health. What we can say is what he did: he gave $14 million to the pro-Trump Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC and $1.1 million to the inaugural fund. He said he was proud to back the push to “reindustrialize America”.
He isn't a one-party donor, though. The Nightly reported that his company Pratt Holdings gave Labor $1 million in the 2023-24 year. That reads as someone buying a seat at every table, and where you land depends on whether you call that pragmatism or pay-to-play.
In April 2025 he pledged $5 billion to US manufacturing, saying “To make America great again we need to make in America again.” The company says it makes 100% recycled paper and boxes with 70 US factories and 5,000 new jobs promised. Those are the company's claims, not independently checked here.
On the good side, in 2017 he pledged to give away $1 billion before he dies, saying “I can afford to and it's a great honour and privilege to do so.” We couldn't confirm how much has been paid out since. That pledge is real credit, and it's the reason this isn't a lower score.
