Do we like Annastacia Palaszczuk?
Our score: 5 out of 10. Nothing nasty turned up, but the key pages wouldn't open, so this is a middle-of-the-road score on a thin read.
Annastacia Palaszczuk is the Labor leader who became Queensland's premier and, at the 2020 state election, won a third straight term for her party. Reporting at the time framed it as a historic win for a woman leader. That run of wins is the spine of her story, and it's why she's still a big name in Queensland politics.
Her government's biggest integrity moment came in mid 2022, when Professor Peter Coaldrake's review of the public sector landed with a thud. Coverage described it as a damning report on culture and accountability. Palaszczuk's response was to say she would accept his recommendations in full, and the government went on to promise faster release of cabinet papers.
On the planet side, the Adani coal mine is the stain people point to. In 2017 she was reported brushing off protesters over the project, and she said she still backed the mine and its jobs. Her government also set a target to end reliance on coal-fired power, so the record is mixed rather than one-note.
On the harm check, nothing in the pages we could read shows her attacking LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or public health in her own words. Her government is reported to have brought in a conversion therapy ban, but we couldn't open that coverage to confirm the detail or the date, so we're not leaning on it.
Straight answer: this is a thin card, not a glowing one. She's a mainstream Labor figure with a long record, one real green-ticket stain in Adani, and an integrity review she said she'd follow. Check the full record yourself before you hand over any fan-club membership.
