Do we like Andy Lee?
Our score: 8 out of 10. Years of mainstream, good-natured work with no harmful words or acts turned up, but the public record on causes is thin.
Andy Lee is half of Hamish & Andy, the comedy duo that started out in radio and then made Gap Year and a long-running podcast. These days he also hosts The Hundred with Andy Lee on Nine and writes the Do Not Open This Book kids' series. He and Hamish still back each other's solo projects, which he once described as giving each other “career counselling.”
Scandal is the short chapter here. Searches for lawsuits, court cases and misconduct allegations turned up nothing about him. The closest thing is a 2022 radio joke that Hamish and Andy's old material would get them cancelled today. That's a gag about their back catalogue, not a complaint against him.
On the harm check, the record is thin but clean. We found no remarks about LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants or the planet that cause concern. We also found nothing on vaccines or conspiracy theories, and no pattern of working with people who push that stuff. He fronts The Hundred, which has run Pride-themed episodes with queer comedians like Rhys Nicholson, and that's the extent of what we could verify. He's a safe pick, though not a campaigner.
The recent news is happy. His animated ABC series Do Not Watch This Show, based on his books, became the biggest launch of a new kids and family show in iview history. Lee said he was “overwhelmed and absolutely ecstatic” at the response from families. In October 2026 he also married in New York, the city where his Aussie-themed Old Mates pub sits.
The good stuff is mostly work that kids and families like, and he's been doing it for over two decades. We didn't find a charity or cause to point to. That's a gap in what we found rather than a mark against him. Nothing in the record suggests he's anything but a decent bloke.
