Do we like Andrew Tate?

Our score: 0 out of 10. He sells contempt for women to paying followers, and we could verify no real good to set against it.

Tate was born in the US and raised on a council estate in Luton, England. He worked in TV production, became a kickboxer, and got famous on Big Brother in 2016. He was thrown off after a video emerged of him hitting a woman with a belt; both he and the woman said it was consensual. He later moved to Romania, where he ran an online business.

On the planet, he told an interviewer in 2019 “I don't care about global warming.” Media Matters reported he also falsely claimed electric car batteries do more environmental damage than petrol engines. That is a smaller thing than the women stuff, but it is the same slide into grievance and contrarian grift.

Then there's the legal pile. UK prosecutors have charged him with dozens of offences, including rape and human trafficking, relating to women in England between 2010 and 2017. In Romania he has been under investigation since 2022 over trafficking allegations. Separately, four women sued him in London's High Court, alleging sexual violence, and that trial was adjourned in May 2026 after police reopened an investigation. He and his brother deny wrongdoing, and nothing has been decided against him on any of it.

A UK court has ruled against him on one thing. In December 2024 it let police seize about US$3.3 million in frozen assets over unpaid tax. The Chief Magistrate called the transfers between the brothers and another person a “straightforward cheat”. Tate called the ruling “not justice”, and his lawyer called the transfers entirely orthodox for online business owners.

The recent chapter is the Miami arrest and detention. A US magistrate found the brothers hadn't shown special circumstances to justify bail. Their lawyer says they are innocent. The next step is a hearing on whether the extradition treaty applies and whether the evidence shows probable cause. On the good side of the ledger, Tate has talked up charity pledges, but we found no verified good deeds in established reporting, so that column is empty.
