Do we like Alex Jones?

Our score: 0 out of 10. Courts found him liable for defaming grieving families, and his own words targeted LGBTQ+ people, with no real good found to set against it.

The story that defines Alex Jones is Sandy Hook. He claimed the 2012 school shooting was a hoax staged by crisis actors, and the families of victims spent years being harassed on the back of it. In late 2021 a Connecticut judge ruled against him by default, after he repeatedly failed to follow court orders and hand over evidence.

The money part came next. A jury set damages at $964 million, and the judge added $473 million in punitive damages against Jones and Infowars' parent company, Free Speech Systems. In October 2025 the US Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal and left the roughly $1.4 billion judgment standing. His own lawyers said the families have no possible hope of collecting the lot.

The way he handled the case tells you plenty. In March 2022 a Connecticut judge held him in contempt for skipping a deposition and ordered fines of $25,000 per weekday until he sat for it. The families also sued in Texas alleging he shifted about $18 million out of Infowars to insiders after the defamation suits began. His lawyer called any idea of hiding assets ridiculous, and the allegation is not a court finding.

Fair is fair: being a loud conservative or a conspiracy fan isn't the problem here. The problem is the claims about grieving parents and about LGBTQ+ people, repeated for money on a platform he built. I couldn't open enough pages on his vaccine, election or climate claims to judge those, so they aren't scored here.

The recent chapter is the unwinding of Infowars. A receiver was appointed to liquidate assets to pay the Sandy Hook debt, The Onion won and then lost an auction, and in 2026 it announced a fresh deal that Jones publicly fought. He has vowed to keep broadcasting regardless, which tells you he hasn't changed course.

The good stuff? Honestly, I looked and found nothing: no charity, no stand taken at a cost to himself. The only generosity in the record is donations flowing to him. That's the whole list.
