Do we like Adrian Ramsay?
Our score: 7 out of 10. A decent record on the planet and no campaigning against anyone, marked down for dodging a straight answer on trans women in 2025.
Adrian Ramsay is the Green Party politician who spent four years as co-leader alongside Carla Denyer, and has been the MP for Waveney Valley since the 2024 election. He lost the 2025 leadership race: he and Ellie Chowns ran jointly after Denyer said she wouldn't stand again, and Zack Polanski beat them by a mile, 20,411 votes to 3,705 by one report.
The moment that sticks to him is April 2025. After the UK Supreme Court ruling on the Equality Act, he was asked on BBC Radio 4 whether trans women are women. He didn't answer directly, said the ruling gave “some clarity in terms of the Equality Act”, and told people not to get hung up on definitions.
He also said Green members who hold anti-trans views shouldn't be expelled. LGBTQ+ commentators and the Young Greens were unimpressed, and PinkNews reported critics saying the party needed new leadership. Co-leader Carla Denyer separately pressed the government in the Commons to commit to trans people's rights.
On the harm test, that is the whole file we could verify: a dodged question and a soft line on party members, not a campaign. We found no speeches against trans people, no conspiracy talk and no dodgy company, so it sits at an asterisk. Where you land depends on whether you read it as a politician being careful or as a leader who wouldn't stand up for a group under pressure.
On the good-person side nothing turned up: no court cases, no allegations about how he treats staff, no scandal. We could open only a handful of pages this time, so that is a thin record rather than a glowing one. Nothing new on him lately either that we could confirm.
