Do we like them?

Do we like Adam Scott?

Our score: 7 out of 10. Clean on harm and no misconduct found, but the good he has done is hard to verify, so it stops short of the top.

Scott grew up in Santa Cruz, California, a kid who spent hours in his room copying the actors he saw on David Letterman. He set up his bed like a talk-show couch and practised being a guest. After success in high school plays he moved to Pasadena for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

The career has been a long, steady climb rather than an overnight hit. He has worked since the early 1990s, with parts in The Aviator and Step Brothers and ensemble comedies like Party Down. Five seasons of Parks and Recreation lifted his profile but made dramatic roles harder to land. Then he was cast as the lead in Severance, which became a critical hit, and its second season earned 27 Emmy nominations, including one for his lead performance.

On scandals, we came up empty, and we looked. Searches for court rulings, lawsuits and allegations turned up nothing about him, only people with similar names. We can't prove a negative, but there's no story to tell here.

On the harm check, the main thing on record is a 2019 Twitter stoush. Mitch McConnell's account posted a GIF of his Parks and Rec character, Ben Wyatt. Scott told the team to keep his image out of it, saying he'd only allow it for McConnell’s “stunning & humiliating defeat”. McConnell's team replied with a clipping from the show, and Scott posted a photo of the senator in front of a large Confederate flag. That is a cheeky political dust-up, not harm. We found nothing from him against LGBTQ+ people, women, migrants, public health or the planet, and no repeat work with anyone who pushes it.

Nothing new on him lately that we could open and confirm. The latest major profile we read, from CBS in August 2025, is about his career and the Severance run rather than any row. Scott told CBS he knew he'd have to give all of himself to the role to pull it off.

The good stuff is where the record is thin. We couldn't confirm any particular charity work or kind act from pages we could open, and the golfer with the same name has a foundation that is a different man's. What fans love him for is the work: warm, funny and now properly serious.
